Hydro power generation dropped to 12 percent as dry weather hits many parts of the island

The director General of the department of Agricultural Dr. Rohan Wijekoon said that the county will face a food shortage if the prevailing drought continues on till next June.

Addressing an event held at his department at Gannoruwa Peradeniya yesterday, Dr. Wijekoon said plans are afoot to grow paddy in the Wet Zone to remedy this situation.

Meanwhile, Engineering Association of the CEB states that hydro power generation has dropped to 12%.

Association Chairman Athula Wanni Aarachchi said the current hydro power generation is reportedly the lowest it has been in 10 years.
