New Chairman appointed for the Police Commission

P.H. Manathunga has been appointed as the new Chairman of the National Police Commission.

Manathunga received his letter of appointment from President Maithripala Sirisena last afternoon at the President's Office.

The appointment followed the resignation of Professor Siri Hettige.

Prof. Hettige resigned earlier this month to accept a teaching assignment at a university in Germany for a period of two months.

The Police Commission is encouraged and empowered to engage in activities pertaining to transfers, promotions and maintaining of discipline.
