Right to information act to come into force from 3rd of February

The gazette notification enacting the right to information act has been issued.

Minister of Parliamentary Reforms and Media Gayantha Karunathilaka has issued the gazette notification, bringing the right to information act in to effect from 3rd February.

Accordingly the public will have access to information of any Ministry, Department, Board or Government Institution.

However, the act has also stipulated types of sensitive information which should not be disclosed and doing so has been classified as a punishable offence.
