The Ministry of Health has decided to implement a special national dengue prevention programme today.

The programme will be launched based on information received regarding there being a high risk of spread of dengue in drought-stricken areas.

Dengue mosquito breeding has increased due to the containers used for water collection by residents being left uncovered.

The national dengue prevention unit noted that 2500 dengue patients have already been reported this year alone.

Attending a media briefing held in Colombo, the national organizer, of the national dengue prevention unit, Dr. Hasitha Perera noted that there has been a significant increase in the rate of spread of infection in the past 3 weeks.
