Naval and fishing community warned of bad weather

Prevailing showery conditions are likely to enhance from tonight, particularly in Northern, Eastern, North-central and Uva provinces, and also in the sea areas around the island particularly in eastern and southern sea areas.

According to the Department of Meteorology, showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern, North-central, Eastern, Uva and Central provinces and in the Hambantota district.

Showers or thundershowers will occur elsewhere particularly after 2.00 pm.

Heavy showers (more than 100 mm) are likely at some places, particularly in the Northern, Eastern, and Uva provinces.

Meanwhile, Naval and fishing community were warned of active cloudiness in the vicinity of Sri Lanka, the possibility for sudden roughness of surrounding sea areas, associated with sudden increase of wind speed (up to 70-80kmph) is high.

Showery and windy conditions are expected to continue over the sea areas around the island.

Winds will be north-easterly in direction and speed will be 30-40 kmph.

The sea area off the coast extending from Balapitiya to Kankasanthurai via Colombo, Puttalam and Mannar can be rough at times as the wind speed can increase up to 50-55 kmph and in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kankasanthurai to Batticaloa via Trincomalee can be fairly rough at times as the wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph.
