The Education Ministry has clarified its position on charges made about not granting access to hold a public speech at Mahawa Wijayaba College main hall.

Issuing a statement the Education Department said that the principal was questioned on this incident.

The principal has stated that a group of people have tried to use the school hall for a political agenda which resulted in not granting access to proceed with the meeting.

Education Ministry went on to say that any organization booking the hall must carry out only the stated purpose for which the school hall is booked.

The Mahawa Wijayaba College principal has forwarded a letter to secretary of Education Ministry citing that in such circumstances a state owned school building cannot be given over for political activities.
