A Provincial Council moves a resolution against Urban Development Authority

The Central Provincial Council Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake stated that he will also show protest if there is a move to transfer Council powers to any other institution.

Ekanayake was answering some journalists after participating in a ceremony held in Kandy today.

A resolution has been presented to Northern Provincial Council against a move to transfer certain powers of Provincial Council to Urban Development Authority.

Chief Minister C.V. Wigneshwaran presented the resolution to the Council.

Receiving application for development projects, giving approval for stipulated charges, issuance of permits and settlement of basic development plans have been taken over by the Urban Development Authority with effect from February 1st.

These powers were delegated by the Urban Development Authority to respective provincial council in 1985.
