JO skips party leaders' meeting convened by President

Monday, 29 January 2018 - 9:32

President Maithripala Sirisena has convened an emergency party leaders’ meeting to discuss the Bond Commission Report.
Presidential Secretary Austin Fernando told our news team that the meeting would be held at this morning (Jan. 29) at the Presidential Secretariat.
Consequent to the publication of the bond report, various sections have expressed their views regarding its content.
One argument was that the number of pages in the report distributed to those in parliament contained fewer pages than the original document.
At today’s party leaders’ meeting, the President is expected to give clarity on such discrepancies regarding the report.
The Secretary to the President said that party leaders would be given the opportunity to get a clarification on the matters.
MP Udaya Gammanpila, however, told our news team that leaders of the Joint Opposition have indicated that they will not attend the meeting.
