UK surgeon allowed to work at Karapitiya Hospital

Sri Lanka Medical Council has recommended that British surgeon Dr. Richard Permin should be allowed to conduct heart surgeries at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital as he has the certificate of the UK Medical Council.
Accordingly, the temporally ban imposed on him has been removed.
The Director of the Karapitiya Hospital Dr. Jayampathy Senanayake said relevant information has been passed to concerned parties.
After, Government Medical Officers' Association raised an issuing saying that the surgeon does not have a license to practice, the matter was referred to the SLMC.

Earlier, Karapitiya Teaching Hospital Director Dr. Senanayake instructed that the services of visiting surgeon to be temporarily suspended.

Dr. Permin frequently visited the Cardiothoracic Unit of the hospital to perform heart surgeries.
