UNP backbenchers have proposed to party leader Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe that all positions in the party should be filled through a secret ballot.
This proposal was made during this morning’s meeting held at Temple Trees with regard to party restructuring.
Our correspondent said that 15 UNP MPs participated in this meeting.
MP Thushara Indunil said that the MPs proposed to the leadership that the Ruwan Wijewardena Committee recommendations should be implemented under the party restructuring programme.
He further said that necessary changes to the party constitution should also be carried out with immediate effect.
