Doctors at Karapitiya Hospital launches token strike

Friday, 27 April 2018 - 10:45

The doctors at Karapitiya Teaching Hospital have launched a 24-hour token strike.
They commenced their strike at 7 am today (Apr. 27).
The reason was a decision by the authorities to allow British doctor Dr. Richard Permin to perform heart surgeries at the hospital.
The GMOA charged that the British surgeon did not have a license to practice in the UK, thus he cannot practice in Sri Lanka.
However, last week, the Director General of the Health Services, removed the temporary ban imposed on him to perform heart surgeries at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital based on a recommendation by the Sri Lanka Medical Council.
