Customers catch bank robber

A group of customers with the support of a security officer have been able to foil a robbery at a private bank in Elakanda, Wattala.
Police said at around 2.30 pm yesterday (May 03), a 30-year-old person had attempted to rob money from the woman who was at a collection counter, after throwing chili powder at her.
Then the customers along with a security officer acted swiftly and apprehended the criminal.
He was a resident of Rukgahawila.
Police have taken into custody the money amounting to Rs. 11,082,160 that the suspect attempted to rob.
He will be produced before Wattala magistrate today.
