The Cabinet Sub Committee on Cost of Living has recommended that the Consumer Affairs Authority to allow milk powder companies to increase the retail price.
Accordingly, a kilo of milk powder will be increased by Rs. 50 and the price of a 400g pack will be increased by Rs. 20.
The price revision is effective from midnight today (May 04).
However, the price of baby formula will be unchanged.
A member of the subcommittee, Minister of Industry, and Commerce Risath Bathuideen said that milk powder importers demanded a hike of 75 rupees per kilogram.
The Consumer Affairs Authority recently permitted gas companies to increase the price of a 12.5 kg domestic gas cylinder by Rs. 245.
