First Cabinet meeting after reshuffle, today

Wednesday, 09 May 2018 - 9:20

The cabinet is scheduled to meet for the first time today (May 09) since the recent cabinet reshuffle.
Government sources say that protocol normally has been to have cabinet discussions held on Tuesdays.
However since the inauguration of the new session of Parliament took place yesterday, the Cabinet meeting was required to be rescheduled for today.
Priority will be given at the meeting to discussions regarding the next steps to be taken by the Good Governance Government.
In addition, attention will also be drawn to the issue concerning the Deputy Speaker post.
MP Thilanga Sumathipala resigned from the post last month.
Meanwhile, the Parliament is scheduled to meet at 1 pm today.
