The fishermen in the Western, North-Western and Southern coastal belts who are engaging in traditional fishing methods have suspended fishing activities over the rising fuel prices.
They had raised black flags at fisheries harbours to show their protest.
The protests by the fishing community have contributed to increasing the retail price of fish.
It was revealed that tuna which was sold at Rs. 300 to Rs. 350 per kilo has now risen to Rs. 600.
The prices of other fish varieties have also gone up.
