Permission granted to open essential goods stores in areas where curfew is imposed (Video)

Police curfew has been imposed in the Western Province from midnight tomorrow (29) until 05:00 a.m. next Monday (02).

All essential food distributors and pharmacies will be kept open from 8.00 am to 10.00 pm tomorrow (29) in areas where a quarantine curfew is currently in force. The curfew will continue beyond Monday in these areas, the Government Information Department says.

However, the curfew that comes into effect in other areas of the western province from midnight tomorrow will be lifted at 5.00 am on Monday.

Food distributors and pharmacies will be kept open two days a week as previously announced. 

The Army Commander also requested the residents of the Western Province not to travel to other areas as the curfew which will be imposed at midnight tomorrow (29) will be relaxed at 05:00 a.m. on Monday (02).

While addressing the media during a press conference held today (28), Police Media Spokesperson, DIG Ajith Rohana stated that civil servants have also been deployed to arrest those violating the curfew.

Meanwhile, with the announcement of the curfew in the Western Province from midnight tomorrow (29), a large crowd was seen visiting the shops this afternoon (28) to buy goods. Lanka Sathosa Chairman Dr. Nushad Perera stated that people should not panic unnecessarily as there is no shortage of goods at the Sathosa outlets.
