Three-month-old infant diagnosed with COVID - Brandix and Peliyagoda cluster total increase to 5,731

With the identification of 335 COVID patients yesterday (28), the total number of coronavirus patients reported in the country exceeded 9,000, with the total adding up to 9,205. Currently, 5,111 patients are receiving treatment.

The COVID death toll stands at 19, while the number of recoveries increased to 4,075 with the recovery of 32 more patients yesterday (28).

Among the patients that were reported yesterday (28), 202 persons were close contacts, while 140 patients were reported from areas where the curfew was imposed. The other 106 patients were associated with the Peliyagoda fish market.

Furthermore, 27 persons from quarantine centres also tested positive to COVID-19 yesterday (28).

Accordingly, the total number of patients reported from the Minuwangoda Brandix cluster and the Peliyagoda fish market have increased to 5,731.

A three-month-old infant from the Makalandawa area in Walallavita, Matugama has also contracted the virus, after her mother was identified as a coronavirus patient. According to the Public Health Inspector of the area, the mother and child was admitted to the National Infectious Diseases Hospital, while the Makalandawa area was declared as an isolated area.

Travel restrictions were imposed in the Eheliyagoda area after eight persons infected with the virus was identified.

The funeral of a resident of Dickwella, Matara who succumbed to pneumonia after being treated for the illness for several days was carried out yesterday (28) in accordance with quarantine regulations.

Meanwhile, under the directions of the Colombo Crimes Division Director, a team led by an Assistant Superintendent of Police has been appointed to probe the emergence of the Minuwangoda Brandix Cluster.

The team was formed following the instructions issued by Attorney General Dappula de Livera to the Acting Inspector General of Police.
