Import duty on imported fish, dried fish, Maldive fish and sprats increased

The special excise duty on imported fish, dried fish, Maldive fish and sprats has been increased.

The Ministry of Fisheries stated that the increase in taxes was aimed at boosting the economy of local producers due to the decline in fish sales in the market. Due to the sales drop fish is being converted into dry fish at the present. 

Accordingly the tax has been increased to Rs. 127 per kilo of dried fish, Rs. 302 per kilo of Maldive fish and Rs. 1 per kilo of sprats.
