The Department of Meteorology forecasts rain in the sea area between Trincomalee and Hambantota via Batticaloa in the next 48 hours on the impact of a low pressure area that has formed over the southeast Bay of Bengal.

This low pressure area is expected to intensify further into a depression and move west-northwestwards towards the Eastern and Northern coasts of Sri Lanka on 24 November.

The sea area from Colombo to Kankesanthurai via Mannar could be rough and the wind speed could reach up to 80 kmph.

The Department requests the naval and fishing communities to remain alert.
