The Central Provincial Health Services Department stated that a several people who had traveled from Colombo to the Nuwara Eliya District during the last Deepavali festival season have been identified with coronavirus infection.

The department said that 17 cases had been identified yesterday and all of them were persons who travelled from Colombo and their associates. The total number of infections reported from the Nuwara Eliya district so far is 89. 

Meanwhile, 27 cases have been reported yesterday from the Kandy district. This is the highest number of infections reported in a day from the district so far.

Meanwhile, out of the 400 infected persons identified in the country yesterday, 121 were reported from the Colombo District and 112 from the Gampaha District.

The number of coronavirus patients associated with the Minuwangoda and Peliyagoda fish market clusters have increased to 16,639, of which 13,580 are reported from the Peliyagoda fish market cluster.

Two infected persons have been identified from Badulla - Passara - Puhulwatta and Hanawerella areas. It has been revealed that they had arrived in Passara after being engaged in construction work in Colombo.

An Inspector of Police and a Sub Inspector of the Dam Street Police who were quarantined at the Nilapiyasa Quarantine Center in Habaraduwa have been diagnosed with the virus. Galle District Regional Epidemiologist Dr. Venura K. Singarachchi stated that three female officers attached to the Colombo North Bloemendhal Police Station have also been infected with the virus.

An employee who was transporting mail bags from the Kurunegala Post Office to the Dambulla Post Office where 14 coronavirus patients  were reported was identified as an infected person and the services of the Dambulla Head Post Office was temporarily suspended from this morning. However, Post Master Sagara Karunaratne stated that the post office will be reopened after disinfection.

Two boats of the Police Naval Division were deployed today to prevent people from the isolated Bandaragama-Atalugama area from crossing the Bolgoda lake from the Kirimanthudawa area using boats and ferries.
