A group of traders and municipal councilors engaged in a protest today (15) over the closure of the old bus stand near the Maharagama Municipal Council following the unrest that occurred when the unauthorized shop in the premises were removed the day before.

On 13 January, a heated situation arose between the traders and the police when the Maharagama Municipal Council took action to remove these unauthorized shops.

However, the protest ended when the police informed both parties that they should report the matter to the court and act in accordance with the orders received from it.

However, a group of municipal councilors and shop owners came to the scene today and protested, saying that it was unfair for the police to close the area.

A heated conversation also took place between the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Municipal Councilors and traders who were present at the scene.
