The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has announced that the COVID vaccine, manufactured in India, will be distributed to Bhutan, Maldives, Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar and the Seychelles from today.

However, several countries, including Sri Lanka, are awaiting drug regulatory and clearance approvals from those countries.

The Hiru News team inquired from the Director-General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena regarding this.

He said the National Drug Regulatory Authority was preparing a report and would submit it to the Presidential Task Force for approval next Monday. He further stated that further steps will be taken to obtain the vaccine with the Government of India through the Presidential Task Force on Corruption.

However, addressing a media briefing yesterday, Cabinet Spokesman Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said that a vaccine for the coronavirus would be made available to the public by March.
