Saudi newspaper Okaz reported that Saudi Arabia's Health Ministry stated that only those who are vaccinated against COVID-19 will be allowed to attend the Hajj this year.

Quoting a circular signed by the Health Minister, the article read, “The COVID-19 vaccine is mandatory for those willing to come to the Hajj and will be one of the main conditions (for receiving a permit to come).”

Saudi Arabia is the guardian of the holiest sites of Islam, the Mecca and the Medina and its smooth organization of the annual Hajj.

In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the kingdom limited the access of the number of pilgrims allowed to attend Hajj to about 1,000 Saudi citizens and residents of the kingdom.
