COVID claims the life of another pregnant mother (Video)

Another pregnant mother had succumbed to COVID.

Accordingly, the number of pregnant mothers who died due to COVID has increased to four.

The deceased was identified as a 35-year-old woman who resided in the Yayagoda area in Tissamaharama. The eight-month-old baby in her womb also died at the Neville Fernando Hospital in Malabe last night (15).

The woman was admitted to the Debarawewa Hospital in Tissamaharama on 5 May due to fever and difficulty in breathing.

A COVID test revealed that she had contracted the virus.

Later, COVID tests were performed on several members of the family, and it was revealed that seven persons including her husband and the eldest daughter have also been infected with COVID.

However, the pregnant woman was admitted to the Debarawewa Hospital and later transferred to the Neville Fernando Hospital where she passed away.

The woman and her family members had attended a party held at a house in Maharagama recently.

Meanwhil, Obstetrician and Gynecologist Prof. Hemantha Senanayake stated that pregnant women, obese men and women should pay close attention to the complications of COVID-19.

This is also the first time that the highest number of cases in the 'Avurudu' cluster were reported outside Colombo. A number of 33 cases were reported from Kandy, 32 in the Menikhinna area and 24 in the Katugastota area and several other areas in the Kandy District.

Meanwhile, the COVID vaccination programme is still being implemented in several places in the Western Province today (16). A special discussion on vaccination was held at the Ministry of Health yesterday (15) with the participation of Minister Namal Rajapaksa, State Minister Dr. Sudarshani Fernandopulle and others.
