Sri Lanka: Monday and Tuesday declared government holidays

May 24 and May 25 (Monday and Tuesday) have been declared public holidays.

Speaking in this regard, Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration J.J. Ratnasiri stated that the Cabinet of Ministers has also granted approval for the same.

Responding to an inquiry by the Hiru News team, he added that steps will be taken to issue a circular in this regard.

He further added that a Government holiday will not be a Bank holiday or Mercantile holiday.

Meanwhile, Army Commander General Shavendra Silva stated yesterday (17) that travel restrictions will be imposed island wide on the 21st May (Friday) at 11.00 pm to 25th May (Tuesday) 4.00 am.

The islandwide travel restrictions will be re-imposed on the 25 at  11.00 pm to 4.00 am on the 28th May (Friday)
