Inter-provincial transport: Proposal to charge double the bus fare

Saturday, 31 July 2021 - 19:58

The Ceylon Private Bus Owners' Association has submitted a proposal to the Government regarding the method in which the buses should operate from tomorrow (01).

It is reported that it is proposed to give priority to those who had undergone vaccination and to charge twice of the bus fare from those who are yet to be vaccinated.

This proposal is being submitted in a background where a higher bus fare is charged along with buses carrying passengers exceeding the seat number.

State Minister of Passenger Transport Dilum Amunugama stated that inter-provincial bus and train services will be resumed only for the number of seats from tomorrow (01).

It is reported that it is planned to operate a maximum number of buses for the convenience of the public.

It is unfortunate that the Ceylon Private Bus Owners' Association is proposing to charge double the fare in a background where buses are operated without adhering to COVID-19 health guidelines.
