Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella has held a discussion with the laboratory trade unions regarding the revelations made by the Hiru News team regarding the racket conducted over quarantining at hotels.

Ravi Kumudesh, President of the Sri Lanka Laboratory Professionals Association, said that the Minister of Health had given a positive response to the change in the situation.

In the last few days, the Hiru News team has been continuously exposing the exorbitant charging rate scheme that has been carried out for a long time through the quarantine of passengers arriving in Sri Lanka.

Even though people flying overseas from Sri Lanka depart quickly after the Covid tests are completed at the Katunayake International Airport, Sri Lankans, including foreign workers arriving in the country, are being directed to quarantine and exorbitant rates are charged for it.

Hiru News has revealed that some hotel rooms are now charging more than two to three times more than the prices charged for all the amenities, including food and drink, before the Covid pandemic.
