Thursday, 14 October 2021 - 9:06

The stock of potassium chloride organic fertilizer purchased by government companies has been sent to several districts for distribution last night.

Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage stated that these were sent to Agrarian Service Centers in Ampara, Batticaloa, Anuradhapura, Kurunegala, Puttalam, Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.

Accordingly, 30,000 metric tons of fertilizer were brought to the Colombo Port from Lithuania yesterday by the ship 'Vegorus'.

Although the Ministry of Agriculture announced that the distribution of organic fertilizer required for the Maha season would commence from yesterday morning, farmers in various parts of the country stated that this did not happen yesterday.

Accordingly, protests were held in Ampara - Damana, Maduruoya - Ihala Ellewewa, Elahera - Bakamuna, Polonnaruwa - Welikanda and Mahiyanganaya yesterday demanding the provision of fertilizer for cultivation.
