Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena stated that those who have been absorbed into the teaching service out of the 60,000 graduates who were appointed by the government will be deployed for teaching activities at the commencement of schools on the 21st of this month.

However, the 'Teachers and Principals' Trade Union Alliance stated that a final decision will be taken tomorrow as to whether they will report for duties when schools reopen on the 21st.

The Sri Lanka Public Education Services Association called a press conference in Anuradhapura and stated that all their teachers will participate in the academic activities when the schools open on the 21st.

MP Dilan Perera also expressed his views to the media in Haliela today speaking against the teachers 'and principals' trade union action.

The Welimada Uva Paranagama Teachers' Union had also convened a media briefing today and requested the teachers involved in the strike to come to schools from the 21st to teach.

Meanwhile, the Federation of University Teachers' Associations (FUTA) states that its union unconditionally supports the teacher-principal trade union action.

They said in a statement that they condemned the government's attempt to break the teacher-principal agitation through fraudulent tactics such as intimidation and the intervention of opportunistic third parties.
