Power generation in the Sapugaskanda plant stops due to lack of fuel.

Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CEYPETCO) begins to supply 900 MT of fuel to the Ceylon Electricity Board.

Previously, the Ceylon Electricity Board Engineers' Union (CEBEU) states that all thermal generators at the Kelanitissa Power Plant Complex will have to be shut down from 05:00 pm today (18), due to the lack of fuel to operate the generators at the power plant.

Although discussions have been held with the Ministry of Energy and the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation on several occasions to obtain the required fuel stocks, those discussions have not yet received a positive response.

Accordingly, the national grid will lose 300 mega watts of capacity from 05:00 pm today (18).

CEBEU Secretary Dhammika Wimalaratne stated that due to this an hour and a half power cut will be required at night from today.

Meanwhile, despite this situation, the CEB Engineers' Union has taken a trade union action today by not taking sick leave and reporting for duty.
