It is reported that an investigation is being carried out against Udith Lokubandara, who was the Chief of Staff to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, on charges of financial fraud.

The investigation is being carried out following the allegation that Lokubandara has embezzled more than Rs. 35 million from a bank account belonging to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

A close family member of the Prime Minister has lodged a complaint with the CID regarding the incident, and the CID has launched an investigation into the incident.

According to current reports, the money was withdrawn from an account in a state bank owned by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, using an ATM card issued for the purpose.

When Hiru News inquired about this, a spokesman for the Prime Minister's Office stated that the money in the relevant account was the salary received by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa during his tenure as President.

A search of the account revealed that money had been continuously withdrawn from the account for the past several years.

Further investigations have revealed that the ATM card issued for the account was in the possession of Udith Lokubandara.
