The Water Supply and Drainage Board has begun disconnecting connections of consumers that have not paid water bills for six months and a year.
Piyal Pathmanatha, the board's deputy general manager, said the disconnection procedure had been stalled with the covid pandemic. However the outstanding of water bills have now reached 7.5 billion rupees.
He also said that water tariffs have not been increased in 10 years and there is a need to increase tariffs.
