Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed the IGP to immediately increase the security of the Kaduwela Magistrate as well as the judges of all courts throughout the country.

A statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office stated that the instructions were issued after the Judicial Service Union drew the attention of the Prime Minister to the removal of security at the Kaduwela Magistrate's official residence.

The Sri Lanka Judicial Service Union had expressed its displeasure over the alleged removal of security at the official residence of Kaduwela Magistrate Chanima Wijebandara.

In a letter to the IGP, the union had pointed out that police security had been removed from the magistrate's official residence since yesterday morning.

The union had alleged that the OIC of the Talangama Police had taken action to remove the security of the Magistrate's official residence in violation of the circulars that had been issued to all OICs to provide security for judges.

The letter sent by the Sri Lanka Judicial Service Union stated that the IGP is expected to take immediate disciplinary action against the Talangama OIC in this regard.
