Minister of Trade Nalin Fernando has announced that the retail price of eggs could be reduced to Rs. 40. He warned that if egg producers do not lower prices for the festive season, the government may resort to importing eggs from India.
Fernando noted that the price of eggs has recently decreased by Rs. 6. He plans to investigate further by obtaining reports from the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA).
The Minister expressed concern about the price stability of eggs, especially with high demand expected from cake manufacturers during the December festival season. He stressed that if the price does not reach Rs. 40, the government will consider importing eggs or taking measures to ensure fair pricing for consumers.
