The Commissioner General of Elections, Saman Sri Ratnayake, has reported that over 3.5 million eligible voters did not cast their votes in the 2024 Presidential Election, representing 21.54% of the eligible voting population.

Out of 17,140,354 registered voters, 13,619,916 individuals participated in the election, marking a voter turnout of 79.46%, while 3,520,438 citizens did not vote. Additionally, approximately 300,300 votes, or 2.2%, were rejected.

Ratnayake noted that the voter turnout in presidential elections typically exceeds 80%, and emphasized the role of political parties in ensuring citizens make it to the polling stations to cast their votes.
