The police have recorded statements from five individuals regarding the tragic death of a 16-year-old schoolgirl who reportedly committed suicide by jumping from the Lotus Tower.

A post-mortem examination conducted yesterday confirmed that her death resulted from multiple injuries. Investigations revealed that the student had attempted suicide multiple times in a short span, arriving at the Lotus Tower in her school uniform the previous afternoon with a ticket in hand.

CCTV footage from the observation room of the Lotus Tower captured her attempting to jump on several occasions within a 15 to 20-minute timeframe.

While the reasons behind her suicide remain unclear, it has come to light that the girl was a close friend of a 15-year-old student who also took her life by jumping from the Colombo -02 apartment building three months ago. The father of the deceased girl informed the police that she had been deeply affected by the loss of her friend over the past few months. Investigations are ongoing.
