The Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) has assigned the investigation into the shooting at the Aluthkade Court Complex this morning (19) to the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD).
The attack was carried out inside the court by a suspect dressed as a lawyer, and the revolver used in the shooting has since been recovered from the premises.
It has been revealed that the victim, Ganemulla Sanjeewa, was struck by six bullets before being admitted to the National Hospital. He had been brought to court from Boossa Prison for legal proceedings.
A special search operation is currently underway inside the court, with security around the premises significantly tightened.
