The Police Special Task Force has arrested the main suspect in the murder of alleged underworld leader Ganemulla Sanjeewa, also known as Sanjeewa Kumara Samararatne, in the Palaviya area of Puttalam.

The shooting took place today (19) at around 10:00 a.m. inside Courthouse No. 05 of the Aluthkade Court Complex. According to the police media spokesperson, the suspect, who was dressed as a lawyer, fired multiple shots at the victim as he was about to leave the dock. The gunman then abandoned the revolver at the scene and escaped through a door near the dock.

Police revealed that the revolver had been concealed within a book titled Code of Criminal Procedure, with pages cut out to hide the weapon. It was also disclosed that a female dressed as a lawyer had assisted the suspect by providing him with the book inside the court complex. Investigations are ongoing to locate the woman.
