Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weeraratne addressed the delay in the launch of billionaire businessman Elon Musk's Starlink satellite broadband service, speaking to Hiru News.

The Deputy Minister explained that the delay is due to the company's failure to provide necessary security measures. "Starlink Service should provide us with a dashboard to allow for investigation into security measures. Once this facility is available, the service can go live," he stated.

He further emphasized that for any ISD (International Subscriber Dialing) service operating in Sri Lanka, there must be provisions to ensure security and the ability to take legal action if necessary. This includes obtaining data to support legal measures in case of misuse.

According to the Deputy Minister, the delay is on Starlink's part, as they have not yet provided the required facilities, preventing the service from going live.
