Canadian prosecutors have charged the 30-year-old, Kai-Ji Adam Lo, with eight counts of second-degree murder following a devastating attack at a Filipino community festival on Saturday (26) evening.
This was announced yesterday (27), just hours after Lo allegedly drove an SUV into a crowd gathered for the event.
Vancouver Police have indicated that "further charges are anticipated" as the investigation continues.
At least 11 people were struck by the vehicle.
Authorities report that approximately two dozen individuals sustained injuries, some critically, and warned that the death toll could rise in the coming days and weeks.
Lo, who appeared in court Sunday (27), has a "significant history" of interactions with law enforcement and mental health services, officials said.
However, authorities have ruled out terrorism as a motive.
