The Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody states that if any member of parliament goes to courts in order to testify regarding the actions of the Parliamentary Select Committee that is a violation of clause 17 of the act regarding Parliamentary Powers and Privileges.

 

He also stated that if a member of parliament is to testify in courts regarding any parliamentary activity that Member of Parliament needs to obtain special permission from the Parliament.

 

The Deputy speaker further stated that in a situation where a Member of Parliament violates this, a censor motion can be brought against that MP for contempt of Parliament.
