Stern action will be taken against the culprits involved in the Kalaniya incident; SSP

The Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha members including the Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman allege that Minister Mervin Silva is connected to the murder of the UPFA Pradeshiya Sabha member Hasitha Madawala.


Speaking at a press conference held at the Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha premises, the chairman of the Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha Prasanna Ranaweera stated that the suspects arrested in connection to the crime are the henchmen of Minister Silva and therefore the minister should be arrested as well.




Speaking at the same press conference Pradeshiya Sabha member Lanka Wijithakumara stated that the rest of pradeshiya sabha members should be provided with police protection.


He also stated that the police had not taken notice of previous complaints as well.




Upon inquiry by our news team whether Minister Mervin Silva is connected to the murder, Police Media Spokesperson SSP Prishantha Jayakody gave the following response.




Meanwhile, UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanyaka also expressed the following views regarding the murder while speaking at a press conference held in Colombo today.



However, President Mahinda Rajapakse arrived at the residence of the late Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha Member Hasitha Madawela to pay his last respects.


The funeral rites are scheduled to be held tomorrow afternoon at the public cemetery in Pilapitiya in Kelaniya and the body will be brought to the Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha premises in the morning to administer the last rites.
