Sacking of CJ against constitution-UNP issues release while government opposes the view

Concurrent to President Mahinda Rajaksa's decision to depose of Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranaike the United National Party has issued a release.

The release which bears the signature of party General Secretary MP Thissa Aththanayeke states that ousting the Chief Justice is a move which is contrary to the countries constitution.

Expressing his views to our news team Aththanayeke stated that an impeachment to oust Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranaike was not passed in parliament.


Meanwhile General Secretary of the JVP Tilvin Silva states that from the 15th of this month an era of two Chief Justices would dawn.

Tylwin Silva made this observation during a media briefing which was held in Colombo today.


However Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkodi responded in the following manner against the allegations being levelled against by the UNP & the JVP.
