Official function for welcoming the new chief justice tomorrow; no participation by BASL

The traditional official ceremony for welcoming new Chief Justice Mohan Peiris will take place at the Supreme Court tomorrow.


Participation by judges and lawyers at all courts including the Supreme Court at the Colombo Hulstfdorp Court Complex as well as the Attorney General Department staff and also BASL lawyers including its Chairman attend this function according to tradition.


However the BASL has decided not to participate in the function of welcoming the new Chief Justice that takes place tomorrow.


BASL chairman MP Wijedasa Rajapaksa said that this decision had been taken at the BASL's general meeting held on last 15th.


According to usual tradition the Attorney-General and BASL chairman should address the audience at the ceremony for welcoming the Chief Justice.
