The Ministry of Health has decided to suspend the use of the Meropenem 500mm vial subsequent to the incident in which a piece of glass was discovered within an vial at the Marawila Base Hospital.

According to Dr. Hemantha Beneragama, Director of the Cosmetic Devices and Drugs Regulatory Authority the circular in this regard was issued this evening.

Expressing his views to our news team Dr. Benaragama noted that he had received directives from the Minister of Health to lodge complaints in this regard with the Government of India & heads of its health sector.

It was the Chairman of the Health Services Trade Union Alliance Saman Rathnapriya who made the initial revelation in this regard.

Addressing a media briefing held in Colombo today, Chairman of the Health Services Trade Union Alliance Saman Rathnapriya expressed further views to the media in this regard.
