Minister of Wild Life Conservation Vijith Vijayamuni Soysa has decided to travel to areas where the human-elephant conflict is at its highest, in a bid to ascertain the ground situation in these respective areas.

 

According to the Director General of the Department of Wild Life H. Rathnayeke

the minister had arrived at this decision subsequent a meeting held with departmental officials.

Moreover area residents severely affected by the human-elephant conflict state that elephants wreak havoc in these villages owing to the dilapidated state of elephant deterrent fences.

 

Director General of the Department of Wild Life H. Rathnayeke expressing his views to our news team in this regard stated that these fences would be renovated expediently with the assistance of Civil Defence Force Personnel.
