Attempt to sell infant for 200 thousand rupees foiled; suspects in police custody

A minor employee of the Avissawella police hospital has been placed under arrest by the area's police for having attempted to sell a three day old infant.

According to Police Media Spokesperson SSP Prishantha Jayakodi statements are being recorded from several other suspects believed to be instrumental in the incident.

The Child Help Hot Line of the National Child Protection Authority had received a phone call this morning alerting it of an attempt to sell-off an infant in the Avissawella area.

Subsequently a special police unit attached to the NCPA as well as the Avissawella police had carried out an operation to nab the suspects.

Accordingly the minor female employee of the Avissawella hospital was placed under arrest for having attempted to sell the 3 day old infant.

Chairman of the NCPA Attorney-at-Law Anoma Dissananyeke speaking to our news team made the following remarks in this regard.
