A team of police officers are currently inspecting the site of the impact and steps have been taken to send the rock fragments to the relevant authorities.

However, the geologists of the Peradeniya University had stated that the rock fragments that were found in the Polonnaruwa - Aragalwila region were not meteorites.

Speaking to our news team Vice Chancellor of the Peradeniya University Prof. Athula Senarathne stated that the rock fragments had undergone a transformation after being struck by lightning.
