A hunger strike was launched in Thelippilai Jaffna today by the Tamil National Alliance urging the government to handover the lands in the country's North to its original settlers, who had fled the area during the decade old war.

During the course of the hunger strike launched by the TNA today, Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremnesinghe who arrived at the venue noted that these lands should be handed over to its initial settlers in a manner which would not jeopardise the North's security.

Moreover the Tamil National Alliance charged that participants of today's hunger strike were assaulted by security force personnel.

TNA Parliamentarian M.Sumandiran speaking to our news team expressed the following views in this regard.

Meanwhile our news team contacted Army Spokesperson Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasooriya in a bid to clarify chargers levelled against security force personnel by the TNA.

Expressing his views to our news team Army Spokesperson Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasooriya categorically denied these charges stating that security force personal had only intervened to break up a scuffle during which two youth were being assaulted by a group of political party representatives.
