DMK President M. Karunanidhi, an ally of the Congress-led UPA at the Centre, criticised the reference made by the President in his address to Parliament on improving ties with Sri Lanka.

Karunanidhi said though the situation in Sri Lanka had reached such a pass that Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was “shedding crocodile tears”, President Pranab Mukherjee was trying to paper over the real problems faced by Tamils in the country.

He also ridiculed Jayalalithaa’s decision to cancel the Asian Athletic Championships on the ground that Sri Lanka would also participate in the event.

He wondered whether she was not aware that Sri Lanka would also participate in the Asian event when she made the announcement.

Meanwhile Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa's statement made with regards to alleged war crimes in Kashmir & Channel-4's dormancy in reporting the incident has been awarded prominence in the Indian Express.

The article carried by Indian Express states that Defense Secretary Ghotabhaya Rajapaksa during an interview with a local news paper had mentioned about a video tape which contained the summary killings of 118 Kashmiri Nationals by the Indian Army.
